Piraten CID

Close enough for this to count as Week 2, I suppose!

First off, if you weren't aware, the Pacific Northwest was hit with some snow at the end of last week and the beginning of this week which severely hampered a lot of our ability to work in the office. As a result, a lot of the dev team has been working remotely. So, if you notice anything funky in the update, please let me know. There was definitely some moderate MacGyver'ing going on, so please be gentle if you notice small errors.

With that said, let's get to it!

      Fiona the Black

      Warjack Points 29 to 28

Added the "enemy" tag to Soulfire to prevent excessive "kill my own models for massive focus" abuses.

The new Fiona has been well-received. We have very lightly toned her free points to keep her in check. Also, we wanted to tackle a possible Soulfire abuse before it went into the wild. Making Soulfire an AOE opened it up to potential focus shenanigans, so let's just nip that in the bud right now.

      Mariner

Ship Gun AOE 3" to 4"

We wanted to give the gun a little bit more 'oomph,' so we bumped the AOE size from 3" to 4."

      Sea Dog Pirates

Unit cost from 8/13 to 7/11

Pretty simple points adjustment. We definitely love seeing lots of Pirates on the battlefield, and this should make fielding a couple units of them a little less draining on your lists.

      Sea Dog Pirate Rifleman

      RAT 5 to 6

      Added Sniper

There are a couple directions we've discussed taking the Pirate Rifleman. We've settled on doubling down on his ranged gameplay. RAT 6 lets him hit a little more accurately when he is actually making ranged attacks (as opposed to Point-Blank shots in melee). Sniper means he is a bit more threatening with his ranged attacks as well, and can help mitigate Tough targets.

      Lord Rockbottom

Paymaster [Sea Dog] to Paymaster [Privateer]

We are opening up the options of targets for Rockbottom's Paymaster rule. In practice, this will allow him to target Scharde units in the Talion theme. We are keeping a close eye on this, because Scharde pirates with their sprays under the effects of Money Shot could be... potent.

      Devil's Shadow Mutineers

      Morland's Cutlass RNG 0.5" to 1"

      Cost from 8 to 7

Morland joins Mar in the 1" crowd to make him a little easier to position. Additionally, the unit was made a tad cheaper. We're keeping an eye on this unit, so please keep the feedback coming.

      Swabber

      Girded to Shield Guard

We swapped Girded to Shield Guard. This should help keep some of your more valuable pieces alive once your Pirates have been whittled away, or provide a little more ranged insurance for your 'casters.

Captain Rahera, Terror of the Wailing Sea

Feat changed from Blood-Bound and Critical Decapitation to casting Manifest Destiny immediately for free and providing Sprint to her army.

Windstorm changed to Rough Seas (please read her card for full details).

Rahera got a little bit of an overhaul here. Her feat changed entirely to give her a free casting of Manifest Destiny and also provide Sprint to her army. This should help with her focus problems during a critical feat turn, as well as provide some pretty crazy mobility to her entire army.

Windstorm was swapped out for a new spell, Rough Seas. Rough Seas has some similar properties to Windstorm, but it blankets your own models within your control area, as opposed to requiring your opponent being in your bubble. It is fairly similar to Sandstorm, on the Desert Hydra in Skorne. This should be her premiere ability for delivering her army across the table.

Please keep a close eye on her new feat and Rough Seas and keep the battle reports coming.

      Blockader

Fire Breathers SP 8 to SP 10

      Added Shooting Gallery

The Blockader is a great punchy colossal, but was a bit lacking in the ranged department. Now it has an alternative to just rocket punching things in the mouth. Now it can also lay down a flurry of fiery death at close range when it needs. We definitely want to keep the Blockader as the more "in-your-face" colossal in comparison to the more emphasized game play of the Galleon.

      Mercenary Theme Force: Talion Charter

      Change the "Bombardment" benefit to

After models are deployed at the start of the game, you can choose up to three points on the table at least 10˝ away from the nearest enemy model. Roll deviation from each of these points, with direction 1 on the deviation template pointing directly toward the rear edge of your opponent's deployment zone. On a roll of 1 or 2, deviate toward direction 1. On a roll of 3 or 4, deviate toward direction 2. On a roll of 5 or 6, it deviate toward direction 6. Center a 4˝ AOE on each point of impact. These AOES are hazards and rough terrain that remain in play for the first round of the game. A model entering or ending its activation in one of these AOEs suffers an unboostable POW 12 blast damage roll XICONX.

With this change, the opening bombardment will now only scatter towards your opponent. This should remove the negative experience of your own bombardment drifting back into your own models and make your own life difficult!

      ---

Thank you everyone for the help you provide in the CID. Make sure to get those battle reports in, and definitely utilize the feedback form. Those are the two sources of feedback we weigh the most, so make use of them! Don't worry if you don't see a change here for a model you want changed. We are definitely keeping a close eye on everything, and expect to continually iterate on all the models in this CID for the duration of the CID!
    • Sea Dog Pirate Rifleman

      Cut Combined Ranged Attack
      Cut Sniper
      Add Wild Shot
      Point Cost 2 to 1

We're trying out a different direction with the Rifleman. We reduced their potential ranged output/reliability by cutting CRA and Sniper, and replaced it with Wild Shot so they can shoot before the unit charges or whatever. This direction should give them a bit more flexibility on picking their targets and give them something to shoot most turns. This can be used to potentially disengage your own models before charging, or firing at totally different targets before charging something separate. Or just keep them in the back and shoot.. something!

We also cut their cost to 1. So that is a thing.

Please try these guys out and tell us what you think in battle reports and the feedback form!

      Swashbuckler

Add Open Fist to the Clamp

Ha ha! Gotcha! We did sneak a quick change in, but this one is kind of a given. Again, we plan to address the Swashbuckler further after giving everyone the full weekend to play test and provide general feedback, so don't sweat it, the changes don't end here.

      Scallywag

      Point Cost 10 to 9
Change Bond from Gang Fighter to Groundwork
      Add Gang Fighter
      Cut Feign Death
      Cut Rise

We cut some of Scallywag's native defensive abilities and baked them into his Bond with Shae. Then, we just moved his Gang Fighter straight onto his card. So, with his new Bond, he should be particularly harder to pin down with Shae, but should always bring a decent damage output regardless of which caster he is with. Also, he got a tad cheaper. This should make him a more attractive option overall. Please let us know your thoughts in batreps and the feedback form!

Captain Rahera, Terror of the Wailing Sea

Add living tag to Sprint aspect of feat
Change Rough Seas RNG reduction from -5 to -3

Rough Seas is... rough, to play against. It was a pretty non-interactive spell in it's original form, so we curtailed the range reduction from 5" to 3." This should bring it in-line with other similar effects, still making it an extremely useful spell from providing some counter-play and requiring a bit more thoughtful placement. We also swung the pendulum a bit too far with her feat, which turned her into a more 'jack-emphasized caster. Now her feat provides tangible benefits to her battlegroup and her units without favoring either. Also, let's be real, we weren't wild about Sprinting Banes of various types.
    • Neu

      Ahoy mateys!

The Privateer Week 3 Update is here! I started writing, like, an intro, but I decided to just let the models speak for themselves. Enjoy!

Captain Rahera, Terror of the Wailing Sea

Cut Blood Boon, Crit Decap, and Tactician.

      Change feat to:
      Feat: Bloodletting
Model in Rahera’s battlegroup currently in her control range and friendly living warrior models currently in her control range can immediately make one basic melee or ranged attack.

      Add Blood Weaver:
Blood Weaver - Immediately after resolving an attack in which it destroyed an enemy model with a melee attack, this model can cast a spell with COST 3 or less without spending focus.

      Add Gang Fighter:
Gang Fighter - When making a melee attack targeting an enemy model in the melee range of another friendly Faction warrior model, this model gains +2 to melee attack and melee damage rolls.

Add Leadership [living Privateer or Scharde]:
Leadership [living Privateer or Scharde] - While in this model’s command range, friendly living Privateer or Scharde models gain Sprint.

      Blockader

      Cost 34.
      Firebreathers POW 14.

      Scallywag

      Change Bond [Shae] to:
Bond [Shae] - If this model begins the game in Shae’s battlegroup, it is bonded to him. This model is not considered to be bonded while under your opponent's control. While this model is bonded to Shae and in his control range, its gains Extended Control Range. (When checking to see if this model is in Shae’s control range, double the range.)

      Swashbuckler

Cut Brutal Charge, Close Volley, and Dual Attack.

      Gain Assault XICONX.

      Gain Defensive Strike:
Defensive Strike - Once per turn, when an enemy model advances into and ends its movement in this model’s melee range, this model can immediately make one basic melee attack against it.

      Gain Dodge:
Dodge - This model can advance up to 2˝ immediately after an enemy attack that missed it is resolved unless it was missed while advancing. It cannot be targeted by free strikes during this movement.

      Gain Duelist:
Duelist - This model gains +2 DEF against melee attack rolls.

Pepper Box to Hold Out RNG 4 POW 12

      Swabber

      Gain Girded.

      Powder Monkey

Change the text of Catastrophic Explosion to:
Catastrophic Explosion - When this model is disabled by an enemy attack, choose a point 2d6 + 3˝ from this model and roll deviation from that point, with direction 4 on the deviation template pointing directly toward the rear edge of your deployment zone. Center a 4˝ AOE on the point of impact. Models in the AOE suffer an unboostable POW 12 fire damage roll XICONX and the Fire continuous effect XICONX.

(*note: this will also affect the Grymkin Mad Caps)

      Talion Theme Force

      Change the fourth benefit to:
After models are deployed at the start of the game, you can place up to two 3˝ AOEs any where on the table at least 6˝ away from the nearest enemy model. These AOES are hazards and rough terrain that remain in play for the first round of the game. A model entering or ending its activation in one of these AOEs suffers an unboostable POW 12 blast damage roll XICONX.

Mh, ich weiß wirklich nicht, was ich jetzt noch mit dem Swashbuckler soll. Vorher fand ich den cooler. Aber war er da zu gut ? o.0 Übersehe ich was ?
Restliche Änderungen finde ich sonst gut.
      Reap what you sow

Und das Update zum Update der Week #3:

      Hello friends!

We have a quick update for you as we settle into the final legs of the Privateer CID. The CID will close down on Friday, and there may (or may not!) be a final update on Friday. We'll see when we get there.

For now, check out what we have. Most of these changes are small clarity changes, but it does include a change to Rahera's feat.

      So here we goooooooo~!!

      Powder Monkey

Catastrophic Explosion - When this model is disabled by an enemy attack, remove it from play and choose a point 2d6 + 3˝ from this model and roll deviation from that point, with direction 4 on the deviation template pointing directly toward the rear edge of your deployment zone. Center a 4˝ AOE on the point of impact. Models in the AOE suffer an unboostable POW 12 fire damage roll XICONX and the Fire continuous effect XICONX.

This change adds a "remove from play" condition. Now the Monkey doesn't launch himself like a missile and then make a tough check, for example (which would be very weird!)

      Scallywag

Bond [Shae] - If this model begins the game in Shae’s battlegroup, it is bonded to him. This model is not considered to be bonded while under your opponent's control. While this model is bonded to Shae and in his battlegroup, its gains Extended Control Range. (When checking to see if this model is in Shae’s control range, double the range.)

The Bond templating included a condition that required the model to be in it's controller's control range. Doesn't work very well when the Bond is Extended Control Range! It read very bizarrely and was entirely unintentional. This text just removes that line so that the ability, y'know, works.

Captain Rahera, Terror of the Wailing Sea

Feat: Bloodletting Model in Rahera’s battlegroup currently in her control range and friendly living warrior models currently in her control range can immediately make one basic melee attack or ranged attack. These attacks must target enemy models currently in Rahera’s control range.

Blood Weaver - When this model destroys one or more enemy models with a melee attack, immediately after the attack is resolved his model can cast a spell with COST 3 or less without spending focus.

Black Spot 3 8 – – UP Yes Target enemy warrior model/unit suffers –2 DEF. When a friendly Faction model destroys one or more affected models with a basic melee or ranged attack during its Combat Action, immediately after the attack is resolved it can make one additional melee or ranged attack. Attacks gained from Black Spot cannot generate additional attacks from Black Spot.

I'm gonna touch on the second and third points real quick. Blood Weaver got a clarity change. It works the same, but reads a little bit easier. No actual change here.

Black Spot is getting a text update that clarifies how and when you can make the additional attacks. Black Spot has always suffered a little bit from being a tad confusing, so this new wording should clarify exactly how and when you can make your additional attacks. Note, this doesn't actually change how Black Spot works at all, but clarifies the spell way more for ease of use. This change will be made game-wide to all models with Black Spot when this update goes live.

Now, onto the feat. The feat remains fundamentally the same. The main change here is that your additional attacks can only target models in her control area. This will limit some top of turn 1 shenanigans, and also encourage her to play more in the mid-field-to-forward position we'd like to see her in, as opposed to just sitting back and having a gun line take a bunch of free shots. We think this is a much better change than removing the ranged attack aspect of her feat, as it retains almost all of the play-ability.

      ----

And there you go! Again, we still have a couple days left in this CID, so please give us your feedback, post battle reports, and utilize the type form! Thank you so much to everyone for your participation!
